Uncombable Hair Syndrome Diagnosis
At two years old, Jaili’s hair was sticking straight up and going in all directions, reminiscent of Albert Einstein’s famous unruly hair.
After a thorough examination, doctors suspected a rare genetic disease. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed that Jaili had the condition, according to Daily Mail.
Jaili was diagnosed with “Uncombable Hair Syndrome,” a rare genetic abnormality that affects the hair structure, typically seen in blonde hair, causing it to stand straight up.
Fortunately, aside from the unique hair appearance, the syndrome does not have any adverse effects on one’s health.
Genetic Basis of Uncombable Hair Syndrome
Uncombable Hair Syndrome typically manifests when both parents carry a gene responsible for the condition. In Jaili’s case, her DNA revealed that her mother, Sara, carried one of the three genes causing the syndrome.
However, even if a parent carries the gene, the likelihood of developing Uncombable Hair Syndrome is still rare. For instance, Jaili’s sister has straight dark hair.
A Unique and Endearing Trait
Jaili will have this wild hair for life, but she doesn’t mind at all. In fact, she receives compliments almost every time she’s out.
“We can’t go anywhere without at least three or four people stopping to say something. It’s usually something like: ‘God, look at that cute hair. She’s gorgeous!’” Sara, Jaili’s mother, told Daily Mail.
However, Sara also faces misconceptions. Some people believe Jaili’s hair looks that way due to dyeing or styling, which is not the case.
