Dogs are wonderful companions, always there to assist those in need, often even in a professional capacity. This has been evident with dogs being employed by the police, hospitals, and funeral homes to provide comfort.
A golden retriever, named Gracie, has recently taken on the role of a therapy dog at a nursing home, bringing immense joy to the elderly residents.
Gracie, the adorable puppy, is spreading happiness at the Good Samaritan care home in Scotland.
Gracie belongs to Pam Stewart, a social worker at the care home. Pam has been regularly bringing the little Golden Retriever to the care home where 30 residents have been relishing the affectionate company of the small dog.
“We’ve noticed significant positive changes since Gracie’s arrival,” mentioned Pam in an interview with Good Morning America.
“There are more smiles, more hugs shared, and a lot more lively conversations happening around here,” she added.
Gracie’s presence has been a heartwarming addition, especially considering that the previous dog at the center had passed away in November.
Images capture the residents tenderly holding the charming puppy. At a time when the elderly face increased risks and are often separated from their families due to the pandemic, spending some ‘quality time’ with a puppy undoubtedly uplifts their spirits.
“I chat with her and give her hugs,” shared Dennis Gruhlke, a 66-year-old resident at the care home.
How heartwarming! Thank you, Gracie, for bringing so much joy into the lives of these elderly residents. Your presence undoubtedly brightens their days.
It’s truly inspiring how the inclusion of dogs can enhance the well-being of both staff and residents in care homes. Share this incredible story if you believe more care facilities should follow suit.
