We always love to see how people help animals. But often, it is thankless work because animals usually show little appreciation for a good deed.
However, some animals have a sweet way of saying “thank you” to their rescuers, like this kangaroo who gave a handshake to the men who saved him!
According to Daily Mail Australia, a man named David Boyd saw a kangaroo in Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. The water was reportedly icy cold, and the animal couldn’t get out.
But then, two brave bystanders braved the icy water to bring the kangaroo to safety.

The men approached cautiously so as not to scare the kangaroo.
As they got closer and tried to grab him by the arms to bring him to safety, the kangaroo began to wave his arms frantically.
But the men were not afraid of the animal and grabbed and led it out of the water.

A third man helped bring the kangaroo onto dry land to keep the scared and shivering animal calm.
While they may seem gentle, kangaroos can be dangerous when they feel threatened. Their defense consists of a strong punch, similar to that of a boxer. In addition, they have sharp claws and a kicking technique that according to experts can devastate a human’s intestines.
But fortunately, this kangaroo seemed to understand that these men were there to help. In a heartwarming moment, he even extended his paw for a handshake.

“Oh, he’s thanking you!” says the man filming the rescue.
According to Daily Mail Australia, the kangaroo was in “shock” and took half an hour to calm down.
But according to Courier Mail, onlookers said the kangaroo eventually hopped away, seemingly unharmed by the ordeal.
