Many dogs are left without owners and risk facing a tragic fate or being killed.
A dog who was about to receive a deadly injection knew exactly what was going to happen to her, as reported by The Dodo.
The organization High Plains Humane Society, in the American state of New Mexico, visits various animal shelters to photograph dogs waiting to be adopted or saved.
One of the visits the organization made was to the Portales animal shelter. There, employees of the organization took a truly heartbreaking photo of a dog.
The dog in question was a female who hoped to be adopted when she saw the camera lens.

While the sad dog hangs her paws through the bars, it seems as if she has tears in her eyes. It makes the whole situation even more heartbreaking.
However, The Dodo reports that research has shown that dogs do not produce tears when they are sad. When there is fluid coming out of their eyes, it may be because something is wrong, as stated by The Dodo.
Dogs typically weep when they grieve. Those who have a dog know how they sound when they are sad, right?
Finally a home
Even when the sweet dog is not crying, her face speaks volumes. She needs help, and fast. She needs a home.
After numerous calls had come in to the animal shelter, the little dog was finally able to go to a new home.
