Heartbreaking Decision: Parents Forced to Remove 13-Year-Old Daughter from Ventilator after Hellish Sleepover

Australian Ally Langdon was deeply moved when she spoke to parents who had to make the heartbreaking decision to let go of their 13-year-old daughter, whom they had cherished for over a decade.

The young girl tragically passed away after experimenting with a dangerous trend known as “chroming,” leaving Langdon, a mother herself, struggling to contain her emotions.

In A Current Affair, Ally Langdon shared Andrea and Paul Haynes’ heartbreaking story of their daughter Esra Haynes, who lost her life after trying the dangerous trend of chroming, which involves inhaling toxic chemicals to achieve a high.

Esra, a vibrant young girl described as determined, fun, cheeky, and talented by the Montrose Football Netball Club, where she was co-captain, was an accomplished athlete who enjoyed BMX biking with her siblings and led her team to a national aerobics championship in Queensland.

During a sleepover on March 31, Esra tragically sniffed a can of deodorant, leading to a cardiac arrest and irreversible brain damage.

Andrea, Esra’s mother, shared with Langdon in the interview how they received the dreadful call to pick up their daughter in the middle of the night.

Esra’s friends initially mistook her condition for a panic attack, not realizing the severity until it was too late. Despite efforts to save her, Esra’s brain damage was irreversible.

After eight days on life support, Esra’s parents made the difficult decision to let her go when doctors confirmed the irreparable damage to her brain.

Defeated but determined to raise awareness, Esra’s parents are now advocating to educate parents and children about the dangers of chroming, a trend that has claimed the lives of several young individuals.

Reflecting on their loss, Paul shared in an interview with a local news station how they wished they had known about chroming earlier to have discussions with Esra about its risks.

Since 2009, chroming has been responsible for multiple deaths in Australia and globally, causing severe health issues like seizures, heart attacks, and organ failure.

Paul emphasized the importance of open conversations between parents and children to prevent such tragedies, urging families to talk openly and honestly about dangerous trends like chroming.

Our hearts go out to the Haynes family and all who loved Esra. Let’s spread awareness to protect our children from harm and educate them about the risks of dangerous trends like chroming.

Share this important story to help prevent similar tragedies and keep our children safe.
