When tragedy strikes, the depth of the bond between animals and humans becomes profoundly clear. Sereno, a devoted horse, experienced a heart-wrenching loss when his best friend, Wagner Lima, passed away.
Wagner, a 34-year-old Brazilian cowboy, tragically lost his life in a car accident on New Year’s Day in 2017.
During Wagner’s funeral, amidst the mourners grieving the departure of their loved one, Sereno’s reaction left everyone in awe.

Wagner and Sereno shared an inseparable bond, having worked together in rodeos for more than a decade. Wando, Wagner’s brother, revealed how Wagner went above and beyond to care for his loyal four-legged companion.
“Wagner had immense love and passion for him,” Wando stated. “At times, he sacrificed his own needs to ensure his horse was cared for.”
Following the tragic loss of his brother in a motorcycle accident, Wando felt it was fitting for Sereno to be present at the funeral.

The emotional ceremony unfolded in the village of Cajazeiras, Brazil.
As Sereno approached the coffin alongside Wagner’s brother, a poignant moment transpired when Sereno caught a whiff of the coffin.
“Once the casket was brought closer, it seemed as though Sereno was shedding tears. He recognized the scent of his owner and realized he was no longer with us. Sereno began stamping his hooves and weeping. It was an incredibly sorrowful sight,” shared family friend Francielio Limeira with USA Today.

Fortunately, Sereno will now reside with Wagner’s brother Wando and his family.
This touching incident underscores the profound emotional connection animals form with those who care for them deeply.
