Dogs have such an incredible instinct. They can often perceive things that their human owners can’t. This ability can often make the difference between life and death.
That was recently the case… A smart Husky was the one who noticed an abandoned baby in the park and helped bring him to safety.
According to Birmingham Live, 64-year-old Terry Walsh was walking his Husky, Hel, in The Mounds, Birmingham.

The two passed by a rolled-up blanket lying by the bushes on the ground. Terry thought it was just something someone had discarded. However, Hel ran over to investigate.
“She went to the blanket, lay down next to it, and started nudging it very gently with her nose,” Terry told Birmingham Live.
To his shock, he suddenly heard a sound coming from the discarded blanket – the sound of a crying baby.
Terry realized the baby had been left there all alone, exposed to the elements. Luckily, his dog had found the little one.
“I think Hel’s gentle nudge and the warmth of her body woke the baby up,” he said.
He was grateful that the dog had found him first. After all, he knew that rats and foxes could have been a great danger to the baby.
The police later described the baby as being “only a few hours old.”
Although the baby is safe, thanks to Hel, the police have not been able to identify the boy’s mother yet.
He was taken to the hospital and given the nickname “George” – he was found near St. George’s Day – but no one is sure where he comes from. West Midlands Police issued an urgent appeal to the boy’s mother.
“Baby George is healthy and doing well,” West Midlands Police wrote on Facebook. “But unfortunately, we still haven’t found his mother. We are very concerned about her and want to check on her well-being, both physically and mentally.”
“This is our only concern at the moment. Giving birth is a big deal, and we are worried that she may need medical help. We want her to know she’s not in trouble. We are ready to provide her with the help and support she needs – and we can be contacted in confidence.
The newborn’s mother was finally found by the police after an almost eight-month search. They said they had followed 1000 investigative leads before locating the child’s mother.
In a statement, the force thanked the public and the media for their assistance in locating the mother and called the “overwhelming” response “essential” to their search.
How sad – we hope everything turns out well for “baby George”. We are glad that he is now safe and healthy, thanks to the quick thinking of a smart Husky.
