Jennifer Grey’s name is recognized worldwide, thanks to her portrayal of “Baby” in the iconic romantic drama Dirty Dancing released in 1987. Since then, she has amassed a huge following of fans and admirers.

The film is set at a holiday resort where Frances “Baby” and her family are vacationing, and where a romantic connection blossoms between the rebellious dance instructor played by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as “Baby.”

After his passing, it was revealed through a handwritten letter that Patrick Swayze died with a heavy heart.

The movie has become a cult favorite with numerous fans eager for a sequel. However, Grey has emphasized that a sequel might not materialize. She expressed, “… my entire endeavor with this is to do it justice, to execute it exceptionally well, in tribute to Patrick, in respect of all fans’ connection to the film,” Jennifer stated. “If there’s ever a remake of that movie, it must be outstanding.”

Dirty Dancing: The Sequel

In recent interviews, Grey disclosed much information about the filming process. She admitted that she and Swayze didn’t immediately click, but their bodies, on the other hand, “really connected.”

In April 2022, during a Cinemacon event, Lionsgate revealed plans for a sequel to Dirty Dancing.

Following the announcement, Grey appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show for an interview, divulging further details about the upcoming sequel.

Perfection or Nothing

She mentioned that the sequel will feature elements like intimacy, music, and of course, dance.

In another interview, Grey asserted that she would not participate in the sequel “unless it’s flawless.”

Grey also confirmed the return of some original cast members for the sequel. “Baby has aged significantly. You will see other characters from the original movie,” Grey stated.

She clarified that there are no intentions to cast another actor to play Johnny Castle. “What’s done is done and cannot be replicated. There will never be another Johnny. There will never be another Patrick,” she remarked, adding, “This sequel must stand on its own. It’s a delicate matter.”

Patrick Swayze passed away in 2009 at the age of 57 after battling pancreatic cancer for 20 months. Grey and Swayze had their share of disagreements. Following his passing, she detailed their relationship in her autobiography Out Of The Corner.

My Apologies…

In a poignant reflection, she expressed what she would say to Swayze today: “I would say, ‘I’m so sorry that I couldn’t just appreciate and enjoy who you were, instead of wishing you were more like I wanted you to be.'”
