Life Saved by Unexpected Device: A 18-Year-Old Boy’s Miracle

When Byron turned 18, he suffered from severe abdominal pain for many months.

It turned out that the young British teenager had testicular cancer.

But the way the doctors could diagnose him, and therefore save his life, was done in a rather unusual way.

A few years ago, when Byron Geldard turned 18, he had just graduated from high school. He began to experience severe pain in his side and went to the doctor who told him it was likely due to exercising, as reported by The Telegraph.

But the pain didn’t go away, and Byron returned to the doctor.

The doctor performed an ultrasound and found out that Byron had cancer. But the doctor could not determine what type of cancer he had, and the chances of survival depended on an accurate diagnosis.

The doctor’s surprising technique saved Byron’s life

Byron’s doctor decided to send him to the teenage cancer department at Cambridge Hospital. There, the doctors had a very unusual idea: Byron had to take a pregnancy test.

Pregnancy tests are increasingly being used to diagnose testicular cancer, as this type of cancer produces the same hormones that make women pregnant. And within a few minutes, Byron’s doctors were able to make the correct diagnosis: Byron had testicular cancer.

The 18-year-old boy received chemotherapy and the tumor in his abdomen disappeared. Byron’s life was saved… thanks to a pregnancy test.

“It was a really strange feeling to hear that everything would be okay,” said Byron.

After the incredible event, Byron was able to lead his life again, even though it is difficult considering what he had gone through.

“You expect to be able to return to normal life quickly, but my mindset has completely changed,” said Byron.

Now, Byron will never forget what saved his life: a pregnancy test.
