Céline Dion was gearing up for a grand return to the stage post-pandemic, but unforeseen health issues have put a damper on her plans.
The renowned Canadian artist, known for her successful Las Vegas performances, is facing a substantial setback due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms,” hindering her ability to perform.
While prioritizing her health is paramount, the repercussions of show postponements are also financial. Recent reports indicate that the 54-year-old singer is experiencing significant financial losses by being unable to grace the stage.
In November 2021, Dion was poised to kick off her new show at Resorts World Las Vegas, only to face setbacks due to health issues.

However, her much-anticipated comeback was derailed by unexpected health complications.
Following a diagnosis of severe and persistent muscle spasms, Dion had to cancel multiple Las Vegas concerts, first in November of the previous year and then from January 19 to February 5, 2022.
“Céline is suffering from severe and persistent muscle spasms that are preventing her from performing,” a statement revealed.
“Her medical team is actively working on evaluating and treating her. Unfortunately, these symptoms have impeded her from participating in the rigorous show rehearsals.”
In an Instagram post, Céline expressed her deep disappointment over the concert postponements.
“I have invested months alongside my team in preparing our new show, and the delay in starting this journey in November is truly disheartening. The state-of-the-art theater at Resorts World Las Vegas is ready, thanks to the tireless efforts of my partners and it’s truly magnificent,” shared the singer.
“I feel immense regret for letting them down and especially for disappointing all the fans who had arranged to attend the Las Vegas shows. My focus now is on recuperating as swiftly as possible – Céline.”
Céline is currently recuperating at her Las Vegas residence, striving to manage the debilitating muscle spasms.
Striving for a Comeback…
Consequently, the celebrated singer has had to cancel her exclusive Vegas shows and her global tour.
“I must be in peak condition when I return to the stage,” she expressed in an April Instagram video.
“I’m eager, but I’m not quite there yet. … I want to extend my apologies. I realize you’ve been anticipating the concerts for a long time, and I’m grateful for your unwavering support.”
“All I can promise is that I am exerting my utmost effort to regain full strength, so I can deliver 100% during my shows because that’s what you deserve,” she added, visibly emotional.
The Grammy winner is enthusiastic about performing for her multitude of fans once more. The pandemic-induced hiatus has also granted her extra moments with her children.
“The tour was canceled, the whole world was shut down. It was definitely different, but for us, it was a blessing,” she remarked in a Today interview, reflecting on the pandemic.
Cancelled Vegas Shows and Global Tour
“It was old-fashioned family fun, simple pleasures of life, lots of outdoor play, cooking. Honestly, making the best of it.”
Her “Courage World Tour” encompassed performances in various North American cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Denver. Before the pandemic halted activities in March 2020, the Canadian songstress had already staged 52 concerts.
“Our performances require meticulous planning and preparation, necessitating decisions today that will hold firm in the future,” Dion reiterated in a statement.
“I eagerly anticipate my full recovery and the end of this pandemic. I am looking forward to returning to the stage.”
Initially slated to conclude the European leg of her world tour, Céline was compelled to halt her endeavors due to the insurmountable muscle spasms.
Las Vegas holds a special place in Céline’s heart. Not only does she reside there with her children, but it also serves as her professional domain.

In 2003, Céline initiated a four-year Las Vegas residency, which turned out to be the most successful ever, grossing over $385 million.
