After the passing of 95-year-old Maria Isabel Benites Chamba from Ecuador, a service was held at Funeraria Santa Rosa, the local funeral home.
Despite Maria’s absence, her faithful dog, Bumer, insisted on remaining with her throughout the entire service, by her casket.
According to a spokesperson from the funeral home interviewed by The Dodo, “The loyalty and affection between her and her dog were evident. He never left her side.”
Witnesses were deeply moved by the display of loyalty and love the dog showed towards his late owner.
The funeral home director wrote on Facebook, “What a beautiful example for humans.”
Even as Maria was being taken to her final resting place, Bumer insisted on staying by her side.
He jumped into the hearse as the family prepared for the procession to the cemetery, showing his eagerness to accompany Maria on her final journey.
Before boarding the hearse, Bumer circled around it, seemingly indicating his wish to bid farewell to his beloved owner.
Observing the dog’s actions, the spokesperson stated, “A true example of loyalty.”
Deciding to honor Bumer’s devotion, the mourners let him ride alongside Maria during the journey. In a video capturing the moment, Bumer is seen peacefully seated next to the casket, a touching scene of mourning.
