Sometimes, animals come into our lives for a reason. When a firefighter recently saved a stray dog, he knew it was meant to be and gave the sweet dog a new home.
According to a post from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, firefighter Mark Wojnar of Buffalo’s Ladder 2 helped rescue a dog that was running toward a freeway ramp.
Together with a compassionate Samaritan, Wojnar stopped traffic and “reeled” the dog in to bring him to safety. Wojnar then took the dog to the animal shelter.
CABS wrote that the dog was “in rough condition,” with a very dirty, matted coat that “made us realize he had certainly been through a tough time.”
But soon, the dog’s life took a turn for the better after he received a visit from a familiar face: Wojnar stopped by the shelter and adopted the dog!
“As if saving this dog wasn’t enough!” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “We are so grateful for his quick thinking and his mom for opening her home to this happy dog.”
The dog will now live under the care of Wojnar’s mother. He later commented on the post, saying that the dog, now named Bentley, is “doing well and settling into his new home quickly.”
He thanked the staff and volunteers at the shelter, calling them the ‘real heroes,’ and also thanked the animal control officer who helped him chase down the dog.
Wojnar also wrote that Bentley has a “big brother” named Brody, whom he also rescued from the streets in 2015.
Thank you for saving this dog, or actually twice! We are so happy that Bentley has a great new home – it was clearly meant to be ❤️
