Bringing your car in for maintenance is usually a mundane task. For car mechanics, working on cars is just part of the routine.
But sometimes, unexpected surprises can be found under the hood, as was recently the case at a garage in Gorinchem.
A Surprise During Routine Maintenance
During a standard maintenance check of an Opel Insignia from Ridderkerk at Van Mill garage in Gorinchem, a mechanic was in for a shock. When he lifted the hood, a delightful little red kitten appeared!
Manager Anne Boet shared with AD that it was quite a surprise. “It seems like the kitten sought a warm spot. It was a bit frightened but otherwise uninjured. Such a lovely little creature.”
Unexpected Feline Passenger
Upon contacting the car owner, it was revealed that the kitten did not belong to them. The mystery remains as to when and where the kitten hitched a ride inside the car.
Boet remarked, “We’ve found various things under car hoods before, like a duck and even a marten. But a cat, especially a kitten, that’s a first for us.”
Assistance from the Animal Ambulance
After receiving care and posing for some adorable photos with the mechanics, the kitten was handed over to the Animal Ambulance Vianen. A rescuer mentioned to AD that cats do this occasionally, but typically not such young ones.
Given the kitten’s lack of burns, it is suspected that it crawled under the hood later, not in Ridderkerk but in Gorinchem.
Search for the Real Owner
The kitten is currently being cared for at the Animal Shelter Gorinchem, where it has received necessary treatment, vaccinations, and a microchip. If no owner comes forward in the next few weeks, the young male kitten will be up for adoption in two weeks.
While there’s a possibility the original owner may appear, the Animal Shelter stresses that valid proof must be provided.
What an adorable discovery! Luckily, the kitten is safe and sound.
We hope this sweet little one finds a loving home, whether it’s with its previous owner or a new adopting family.
