Dogs are such caring and loyal animals. They have a strong protective instinct and always take care of people in need, especially young children.
There are many stories of children getting lost in harsh, dangerous conditions and being found alive thanks to the faithful dog that stayed by their side.
That was the case recently, after a 10-year-old girl survived the freezing weather by cuddling with a stray dog to stay warm.
The girl had been missing for hours, and the situation took a drastic turn as night fell. Temperatures dropped to -11 degrees Celsius and a snowstorm caused two meters of snowfall.
The Mirror reports that Vika from the Russian island of Sakhalin got lost on her way home from school.
Police and volunteers launched a desperate search for Vika, fearing that the young girl wouldn’t survive the night in such harsh weather conditions.
After 18 hours, Vika was finally found, safe and alive, thanks to an unexpected friend.
According to local media, the girl was found “cuddling with a fluffy dog for warmth.”
The dog was a stray, and the girl snuggled with the dog on a mattress that kind neighbors had prepared for him, sheltered from the snowfall.
“She hid with the dog under a balcony,” said Olesya Voznyuk, an official from the investigative committee.
“She was taken to the hospital immediately and was found to have mild frostbite,” added a local source, according to The Mirror.
It turns out Vika had a special bond with stray dogs, so it’s not surprising that this street dog was willing to keep her company.
“The girl loves animals very much, she always played with local dogs,” said Voznyuk. “She used to feed these dogs after school and got caught in the snowstorm and harsh wind.”
The stray dog certainly saved the girl’s life and would undoubtedly be hailed as a hero by the relieved locals. Unfortunately, the heroic stray dog is missing.
But hopefully, he will turn up soon, and they can give him the recognition he deserves.
What an amazing dog, keeping this girl warm while she was lost in the freezing cold. It just goes to show how loving and loyal dogs can be.
