If you are expecting a baby, it’s always nice to have a friend who is also pregnant. This way you can share the experience with each other. And it doesn’t have to be a human, it can also be different!
Last year, a pregnant woman took in a pregnant cat, and the two expectant mothers developed a bond – and eventually gave birth at the same time!
Lauren Maners loves animals. She often volunteers for shelter animals in need of love and care. But when she was pregnant last year, she decided to take a break from caring for pets and instead focus on her baby.
But fate had other plans. Months after her pregnancy, Lauren and her husband Kainan found a stray cat that they couldn’t turn down.
They found the white stray cat on the side of the road and named her Dove. She was “extremely thin and injured,” Lauren told Bored Panda.
Reportedly, Dove had been eating from trash bins. The expectant mother realized that the cat was pregnant too.
Unable to find Dove’s owner, and also unable to arrange a spot in an animal shelter, Lauren knew she couldn’t leave this single mother cat to fend for her babies in the wild. So she took her in.
“I couldn’t just leave her knowing she would have to care for her babies in the wild,” Lauren said.
“I knew she was in bad shape and also felt a kind of bond with her because we were both heavily pregnant,” she told The Dodo.
“I managed to catch her by luring her to me with our leftover food. Then I wrapped her in my jacket and took her to the vet.”
Lauren took Dove and her future litter of kittens into her home. The former stray cat quickly felt at home.
“She followed me wherever I went and enjoyed sitting outside with me in the mornings on our fenced property. She loves having her belly rubbed while we eat breakfast together,” Lauren said.
In return for taking good care of the cat, Lauren got a lovely friend with whom she could share a real motherly bond.
The two new friends went through the same experience together. Lauren joked on social media that they formed an exclusive “Pregnant Girls Club.”

“Dove and I had an immediate bond,” she told Bored Panda. “It was as if she also knew I was pregnant and that I was a friend. She didn’t immediately trust my husband as much as she trusted me.”
Weeks passed, and soon both pregnant ladies were preparing for birth. It turned out that their due dates were very close to each other.
Finally, the time came, and Lauren gave birth to a beautiful girl, Kylie.
When she returned from the hospital, she discovered even more good news, and an amazing coincidence: Dove had also given birth!
Although she doesn’t know exactly when Dove had her six kittens, she suspects that the cat’s birth was very close to hers: “It’s very possible that they were born at the same time,” she told The Dodo.
Lauren continued to raise the cat family while caring for her newborn baby. She maintained a bond with Dove throughout their motherhood journey. She even said that baby Kylie was starting to bond with the kittens.
After months of fostering, it was time to find homes for all the cats. Lauren helped all the kittens find good homes to be adopted. She told The Dodo that Dove was taken in by a friend of hers so they could stay in touch.
While caring for this pregnant cat during her pregnancy was a wonderful experience, Lauren also emphasized that it is not something to try to replicate.
It’s important to spay and neuter your cats to help reduce the stray cat population.
What a cute story. Thanks to Lauren for taking care of these cats and for looking after another mother. It shows the unexpected bonds that can form between humans and animals.
