An orange cat that survived a devastating wildfire, despite severe burns, has been joyfully reunited with its family. A heartwarming conclusion.
On December 30, a massive wildfire ravaged Colorado, obliterating around a thousand homes across 6,200 hectares of land in the suburbs.
As reported by the New York Times, tens of thousands of residents had to evacuate, marking one of Colorado’s most destructive fires in its history.
In the chaos that followed, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley took in an injured survivor: an orange cat that had managed to endure the fire but suffered severe burns.
The cat was discovered on January 4, only days after the wildfire. According to a post by HSBV, he received treatment for his burns at a local animal clinic before being moved to the organization for specialized care.
“His face and paws were severely burned. Our caring team of veterinarians promptly began his burn treatment, tending to his wounds, and ensuring effective pain management,” they shared.
With time, the cat’s burns showed signs of improvement. Gradually, his eyes and face became visible once again.
However, a new challenge arose. Initially thinking they had found the cat’s family, further investigation revealed that it was not the correct family.
The Humane Society of Boulder County persisted in searching for the cat’s true family by cross-referencing local missing animal reports. They also publicized the cat’s story on social media, in the hope that someone would recognize him and facilitate his reunion with his rightful owners.
Ultimately, several weeks post-discovery, the cat was joyfully reunited with his owner yesterday.
According to a news update from HSBV, the cat, known as “Boots,” was not lost in the fire but had been missing for a whole year!
“His owner had searched extensively for her beloved cat, with no success,” they mentioned.
“Upon beholding photos of his recovery progress with us, and as his distinctive orange and white markings became more recognizable, she was overwhelmed with disbelief.”
While it’s unfortunate that Boots endured burns in the fire, the story concludes on a positive note as he has finally reunited with his long-lost family.
The organization posted a video capturing Boots reuniting with his emotional owner.
“Her reaction upon realizing her long-lost companion was priceless. Boots was overjoyed to see her again!”
