Mom’s Warning: Boy Burned by Hot Water in Garden Hose

A 9-month-old child in Phoenix, Arizona, suffered second-degree burns on more than 30 percent of his body after his mother tried to cool him in a pool on a hot day.

Now, the mother is cautioning other parents and advising them to be extremely cautious when using a garden hose on hot days.

It was a scorching day in San Tan Valley. The mercury soared above 40°C when Dominique Woodger attempted to cool her 9-month-old son in his kiddie pool in the backyard.

She sat the boy in the pool and began to fill it using their garden hose. As the water hit the baby, he immediately started crying.

“I thought he was crying because he was mad … he hates when he gets sprayed in the face,” Dominique told TV station KNXV.

However, she soon discovered a more serious issue. Her son’s skin was bright red, with blisters covering the right side of his body where the water had touched him.

It was revealed that the water in the hose had been heated by the sun to around 65°C by the time it reached her baby.

Dominique rushed her son to the hospital, where doctors determined he had sustained second-degree burns on more than 30 percent of his body. Children’s skin is more sensitive than adults’, making the brief 10-20 second contact enough to burn his delicate skin.

Fortunately, the medical professionals assured her that he would recover from the burns without lasting damage.

Now, Dominique is determined to alert other parents to this unexpected danger to prevent other children and parents from facing a similar frightening situation.
