Nail Selfie Gone Wrong: Urgent Medical Attention Required
One of the greatest assets of social media is that people are connected with each other like never before. We can tell our friends and family about our daily lives, but also when we have questions, need recommendations, want to give warnings, or express our opinions. Ok, it’s not always very interesting to see everyone’s life on your Facebook, but there have been some cases where it turns out that lives were saved through Facebook. That was also the case with 53-year-old Jean Williams Taylor, who posted a photo of her nails on Facebook to show everyone how bent they were. Jean first thought it might be due to poor genetics, but soon it turned out that Jean’s body was giving her a warning. It wasn’t until she received a message on Facebook from an unknown person that the shocking truth came to light.
Jean Williams Taylor didn’t think her bent nails were so strange. Her mother, who died of cancer, also had such nails, so Jean thought it was just bad genes in the family. But when she suddenly received a message on Facebook from someone working in a hospital telling her to seek medical help, she thought this was a little exaggerated. Nevertheless, she sought medical help, and it was discovered that she had a finger abnormality, known as Hippocrates nails. Sometimes these are signals that something is wrong with your lungs or heart.

After a series of tests, it was discovered that Jean had two tumors in her lungs the size of golf balls. After her diagnosis, which happened so coincidentally, Jean posted a warning on Facebook for others. She now wants others to occasionally check their nails so they better understand the warning signs.
“Feels great,” said Jean. “A lot of people are now sending me photos of their nails, but I’m not a specialist. I’ve only known about my diagnosis for 2 days.”
Checking Your Nails
The moral of the story is that we all need to pay more attention to our health and the signals our bodies are trying to tell us. Your nails can be an indicator of underlying health issues. It is always highly recommended to seek medical advice. For Jean, it would have been very easy to ignore these signals and continue with her life. But fortunately, she erred on the side of caution.
If you notice anything strange with your body, always get it checked by a doctor.
