Negrito, the Cat Who Battled Coronavirus, Sadly Passes Away

Negrito, the cat that caught coronavirus in a household where several cases were present, has sadly passed away from the virus. It is believed that the cat contracted the virus from its infected owner.

The cat, who was 4 years old, had pre-existing health issues prior to contracting the virus. Negrito suffered from a heart condition which made it more susceptible. Upon experiencing breathing problems, fever, low blood pressure, and heart failure, the cat was taken to the vet, as reported by Telecinco.

Regrettably, the vet had to euthanize the cat.

6 Infected Cats Worldwide

Negrito was the first confirmed case of a coronavirus-infected cat in Spain. Globally, there were about 6 documented cases. Additionally, eight lions from the Bronx Zoo in New York tested positive for the virus.

According to a Chinese study involving 102 animals, 15 of them tested positive for the virus. Cats are known to be more susceptible to the virus compared to dogs, as stated by Telecinco.

No Instances of Cats Transmitting to Humans

As of now, there have been no cases of cats transmitting the virus to humans. However, the reverse has happened, as evidenced by Negrito contracting the virus from its owner. The World Health Organization emphasizes: Do not isolate your pet, but maintain a safe distance.

Let’s spread this crucial message to prevent people from abandoning their cats out of fear of infection.

Rest in peace, Negrito.
