New Study Reveals: Drink Coffee, Live Longer!

Good news for all coffee drinkers – it appears that you may live longer!

According to new research, chances of living longer are higher if you drink coffee.

¨It is clear that coffee is part of a healthy diet and lifestyle,¨ says researcher Veronica Setiawan, one of the scientists behind the new findings.

The benefits of drinking coffee have been defended by researchers for a while. Now there is even more evidence for the positive effects of a cup of coffee. Two new American studies, published in Annals of Internal Medicine, show that coffee can help us live longer.

“We can’t say that drinking coffee really extends your life, but there is a correlation. If you love coffee, then keep drinking! If you’re not a coffee drinker, then it’s something to consider,¨ says Veronica Setiawan.

One of the studies looked at the mortality of 520,000 people, both coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. The other study, which also looked at coffee and mortality, followed 185,000 people for a period of 16 years.

According to EurekAlert, the studies show that people who drink a cup a day have a twelve percent lower risk of premature death. More importantly, for people who drank at least three cups a day, the risk was reduced to 18 percent compared to non-coffee drinkers.

¨Coffee contains a lot of antioxidants and substances that play a crucial role in cancer prevention. Although this study does not show a causal link to which chemicals in the coffee exactly cause this effect, it is clear that coffee contributes to a healthier life,¨ Setiawan says in her statement.

It is said that coffee reduces the risk of death from a heart attack, diabetes, kidney diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and in the digestive system.

That’s certainly good news for all die-hard coffee drinkers. I think a cup of coffee a day really helps!
