Orphaned Hedgehogs Refuse to Eat – Until Muska the Cat Steps In

To be healthy, a baby needs to know that someone loves them and that they are safe. This is equally important in the animal kingdom.

When a young one loses their mother, they can suffer psychological wounds that may never heal.

Recently, 8 hedgehog babies lost their mother in a lawnmower accident, as reported by BBC. A zoo in Russia took in these orphaned hedgehogs, but despite the staff’s efforts, they refused to eat.

According to Sadgorod Zoo, various feeding methods like a syringe, bottle, and saucer were attempted, along with using warm bags to stimulate digestion at night, but the hedgehogs still rejected food.

Things changed dramatically when Muska the cat entered the room. Having just nursed her kittens, the cat had some leftover milk.

Upon being near Muska, the hedgehogs finally started drinking. The warmth and scent of the milk helped them heal from their trauma and bridged the gap between two very different species.

Under the nurturing presence of Muska, the mother cat, the hedgehog babies regained their ability to feed themselves.
