An appeal made by the Chinese government to its population to eliminate stray dogs has incited a wave of anger and opposition, leading to the rejection of the appeal.
Authorities in the Chinese city of Guangdong, located in the southeast of China, announced a reward of $30 for each stray dog killed, as reported by Daily Mail.
This call was made during the coronavirus pandemic, despite confirmation from the WHO that the coronavirus is not transmitted through animals.

Officials stated that they would compensate individuals for capturing and disposing of stray dogs, offering a reward of $30 per dog, according to Daily Mail.
The residents of the city are now expressing their disapproval of the government’s cruel directive.
“This is simply barbaric. It’s utterly absurd,” expressed a woman to a local newspaper. “This is not how a civilized society should behave,” as reported by Daily Mail.
“This messaging is teaching our children not to respect animals,” voiced another resident.
A spokesperson for the local government clarified to Kankan News that the communication was not intended to encourage canine extermination.
“Our aim is to manage the pet population,” mentioned the spokesperson to Daily Mail.
