When Bradford Cat Watch Rescue received a call from the police that they had found two neglected kittens, they had no idea what to expect.
But having rescued various cats over the years, they didn’t think they would be so surprised. However, when the volunteers first met the little animals, they realized that this case was something extraordinary.
The small kittens with black and white fur had been dyed with blue and green permanent paint and they were in bad shape.
While cats lick themselves to clean, the staff were concerned about the amount of paint toxicity the cats had ingested, so they rushed them to the veterinarian.
They were also severely neglected.
βIf these kittens hadn’t been rescued, they would surely have died within an hour or two.β
Were taken to the veterinarian
The kittens were only a few weeks old when they were found and were named Shrek and Smurf.
Smurf’s skin was damaged by the paint and very irritated. But fortunately, help arrived in time.
βWe took them straight to the veterinarian. They’re getting medication and eye drops, and we’re letting them bathe in a special solution. So far they’ve had four baths. The paint is coming off their bodies, but it’s still on their faces and in their eyes,β says volunteer Katie.
Animal lovers outraged
How the little kittens were treated by their owner sparked outrage on the internet:
βSo sad, how can you be so cruel to animals,β someone writes.
βSo happy they are okay now, but this is so cruel to do,β writes another.
βWhoever did this is a monster,β wrote a third.
After many ups and downs, the cats were clean again! With good food, rest, and lots of love, they will have a safer and better life later.
