Reprimanding children for not obeying is not necessarily a bad thing. It teaches them that there are consequences to their actions, but also encourages them to respect the system and the rules. They simply cannot do whatever they want.
When I was in school, I was constantly punished for not following the rules. But I do think that it ultimately taught me a lot. I completely understand why teachers discipline students.
That being said, too much punishment is also wrong. Recently, a truly shocking incident took place in India. Six young students between the ages of 9 and 10 arrived late to school and received the most terrible punishment ever.
When six young boys arrived late to school, in the Andhra Pradesh region, they couldn’t believe what the principal made them do.
Instead of giving them a warning or providing an appropriate punishment, the principal decided to punish them much harsher than necessary.
Shocking Crime
According to some sources, the children had to strip off their clothes and stand naked in the sun. To make it even worse, they had to do this in front of the whole school. In the presence of all the teachers and students.
Later, images surfaced of the punished students, who received heavy global criticism for this. The responsible principal, Maharaja Naidu, is missing. Parents rushed to the school with sticks and weapons to protest.
According to local authorities, an investigation into this horrific act is being initiated. Achyuta Rao, chairman of the child rights organization Balala Hakula, claims that the director in question is receiving support from the Minister of Education to cover up the case.
Cover-Up
“Our organization has spoken with the Minister of Education and instead of suspending the school management, they will cover up the whole issue with help from above,” Rao said.
“Is this how such serious matters are handled? The school principal should be arrested. It’s clearly a case of child abuse. Children may need psychological help after this tragic event.”

It appears that Rao’s organization is taking matters into their own hands to seek justice. The police have done nothing so far, but the child rights organization has filed an official complaint with the National Commission for the Protection of Children. A month later, there is still no news.

The idea that someone in such a position would do something like this to children, in such a barbaric, violent way is disgusting and reprehensible. What’s even worse is that the perpetrator is not even being punished.
