Giraffes, known for their towering height and graceful stature, faced a challenge when a calf was born with leg abnormalities jeopardizing her well-being.
Fortunately, with the help of compassionate individuals, the calf now stands tall again, thanks to the custom leg braces she received.
As per a statement from the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, the calf named Msituni was born with hyperextension, causing misalignment in her front legs and hindering her mobility.
Without intervention, Msituni would have faced significant discomfort and may not have survived. Thankfully, veterinarians at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park teamed up with orthopedists to tackle the issue and give the calf a fighting chance.
Although the Hanger Clinic usually focuses on providing orthotic and prosthetic care to humans, they rose to the occasion by crafting custom carbon graphite leg braces tailored for Msituni.
This initiative proved to be a resounding success, leading to Msituni’s full recovery, all thanks to her newfound companions and specialized braces.
Expressing his joy, Ara Mirzaian, an orthotist at the Hanger Clinic, shared, “I have never worked with wild animals before. It’s a unique experience that brings immense satisfaction, and I cherish every moment of it,” as mentioned in the press release.
