Time and time again we read horror stories of animals being abandoned and left to their fate. Each one worse than the last.
The story of this dog, Rusty, is so painful it hurts to read.
But luckily, it all ends well.
The incident took place in October this year in Brunswick, USA. A woman was out for her daily walk when she stumbled upon an abandoned office building.
The office building, which had been empty for almost a week, was completely deserted. Next to the building was a portable toilet, and a sudden gust of wind blew open the door, according to Pawmygosh.
In the scorching heat
The woman took a closer look, and near the door, she found a dirty portable toilet where she saw a small creature hiding in a much too small space. That creature turned out to be a small, furry dog.
The toilet must have been standing in the scorching heat for at least a week, and inside the toilet, the dog had been trapped all that time without food or water.
It was simply a miracle that the animal was still alive.
Tiffani Hill, coordinator of the Glynn County Animal Shelter, thinks the perpetrators of this terrible act must live nearby.
Vet wanted to euthanize him
When the dog was taken to the vet, they thought it would be better to euthanize him to spare him the pain and trauma.
But the woman who found the dog refused and wanted to give the animal a new chance at life.
Rusty, the dog’s name, was cared for and treated at a special clinic. The story was shared on Facebook, and several people have since expressed their anger towards the person who left the dog in this condition.
“Dear me. Why?” someone writes.
“Let me just say, THE ONE WHO LEFT THIS ANIMAL IN THIS CONDITION IS A SICK PERSON, KARMA WILL COME BACK TO YOU,” writes another.
“I will pray for this little one,” a third writes.
“Let him live,” a fourth writes.
Adoption
Currently, the dog is showing signs of improvement, and the shelter staff hope that he can be adopted soon into a kind, warm family.
So far, the police have not been able to apprehend any suspects. But the Humane Society of the United States is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information about the perpetrators.
