Those who truly love animals cannot bear to see animal suffering.
Whether it’s a human or an animal, we all deserve to be treated with love and respect.
Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
Animal lover Jane Harper discovered that Bella was in danger, and it changed the poor dog’s life forever.
I really cannot understand how someone can mistreat another living being, human or animal, so badly that their life is put in danger.
It was in January 2020 when Jane Harper and her friend were out for a walk in Nottingham, UK.
But nothing that morning seemed strange.
The two women were taking a walk as usual when a discovery in a lake changed their lives forever. When they suddenly heard a dog gasping for breath, they couldn’t believe what they were hearing.
Jumping into the water to save the dog
The two women and their dogs responded to the fact that something was not right.
And their gut feeling was right.
In the lake was a dog, motionless. The two friends looked to see if the dog might be dead, but suddenly it started convulsing and blinking its eyes.
After that, Jane didn’t hesitate for a second.
She handed her dog’s leash to her friend and jumped into the water. That’s according to The Mirror.
Jane tried with all her might to drag the poor dog ashore.
Found with a stone tied to its leg
It turned out that a large stone was tied to one of the dog’s legs, causing it to nearly drown.
“A woman came running with towels, everyone helped to save the dog,” says Jane.
“She was completely frozen, and we all thought she would die. It was a very emotional moment.”
The poor dog was examined, and the police found a chip with important information.
Owners suspected of animal abuse
They had found her identity by then. Her name was Bella.
Shortly after, a man and a woman were arrested for the incident, suspected of animal abuse.
It has been a year since this incident took place, and a lot has happened with Bella the dog.
Bella
After a long struggle and rehabilitation, there was finally good news.
Dog Bella found a new home.
Retired couple Maggie Mellish and Charlie Douglas have since taken on the responsibility and have given her all the love and care she deserves. That’s according to The Mirror.
“When we heard Bella’s story in the news a while back and the fact that she was looking for a new home, our daughter Clare said we should bring her into our home,” says Maggie.
“We will have to visit the vet regularly. Bella is already old, and we know that. But we want to give her a loving home after all she’s been through.”
“We are both retired, and she will continue to get our attention. And she will get it, because it’s also good for us.”
Animal lover stays in touch
Even Jane Harper, the woman who saved Bella, has moved on since the cruel incident.
She says she is very happy that Bella has finally found a loving family.
“She looks like a completely different dog. Her coat is so beautiful, and she looks happy and full of life. It’s amazing to see how she has recovered and can now spend the rest of her life in a warm home. It was nice to meet Bella’s new owner, and we stay in touch,” she says.
The former owner of the dog was charged with animal abuse and must perform a year of community service.
In addition, she must pay a fine and is banned from having dogs for three years.
All’s well that ends well. We are happy for Bella!
