Rescued Baby Elephant Follows Guardian Angel Everywhere

There are many incidents nowadays where wild animals are taken from their natural habitat to be exploited for human gain. The number of animals threatened with extinction continues to rise.

It is depressing that many people think that nature is only meant to be exploited and that Mother Nature can be used for personal gain.

But luckily, there are also people willing to turn their whole world upside down to save our beautiful wild animals.

Meet animal hero Roxy Danckwerst, who has been caring for sick and orphaned animals for two decades. Her newest addition is Moyo, a baby elephant who has taken over Roxy’s rescue center and home.

Moyo, meaning “from the heart,” was found by park rangers after being abandoned on the shores of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe. She was only a few days old when she and her elephant family tried to cross a flooded river and got washed away.

The elephant was brought to Roxy’s rescue center in Harare, Wild is Life, where he has adapted to his new environment. He follows Roxy everywhere she goes, even though it’s not the most comfortable living situation, as Moyo weighs 55 kg.

Slept beside him every night

Roxy has nursed and rehabilitated many baby elephants before releasing them back into the wild, but Roxy will take longer with Moyo because he is scared of everything and also sick. That’s what we learn from Go Animals.

Animal rescuer Roxy even slept by his side every night until she had gained his trust. Now the two are inseparable, and he follows her everywhere, even when he’s lying next to her on the sofa.

Watch these two adorable souls together and Moyo’s love for all things silver in the video below from the BBC program ‘ Nature’s Miracle Orphans ‘.

It will be heart-wrenching for these two when Moyo is ready to return to the wild, but Roxy knows it’s for the best.
