Life can be challenging for a stray dog. Surviving on the streets, without a home, forces them to seek food and shelter independently.
It becomes even more heart-wrenching when the stray dog is just a young puppy. One such puppy managed to take care of itself, using an old shoe as its only shelter. When a rescuer discovered this poor pup, he went above and beyond to provide her with a new chance at life.
Goran Marinkovic, a compassionate man from Serbia, dedicates himself to aiding stray animals in his area. He selflessly feeds over 100 stray animals, a labor of love that he finances from his own pocket.
“I rescue endangered animals that live on the streets. I care for animals because I love them,” he shared with Bored Panda. “I provide food to abandoned street animals that are overlooked by humans and lack owners. Their population keeps growing.”
Among all the animals he has assisted, one particular puppy’s story shines brightly. Last March, he came across a tiny puppy, all alone and surviving with only an old shoe for shelter.
He found the puppy among a pile of garbage, drawn to her cries. “As I passed through a narrow path, I heard whimpering from behind the rocks,” Goran recounted to The Dodo. “She was cold, hungry, and thirsty. I had food, so I gave her some salami right away.”
Not spotting a mother dog or any siblings, Goran realized that the pup was entirely on her own. Concerned for her well-being, especially as she relied on just an old shoe for warmth, he made the decision to intervene and help the dog, a gesture that the grateful pup accepted wholeheartedly.
According to The Dodo, he named the stray puppy Coco. Once safe, he observed her bright, cheerful demeanor and her friendliness towards people.
Goran then embarked on a mission to find a permanent home for Coco. After spreading her story on social media, he reviewed numerous adoption requests and eventually found the ideal home for her in Germany.
He remains in contact with the new family, receiving updates and photos of Coco that showcase her growth and transformation since her rescue. Goran shares that Coco is currently traveling with her new family.
Coco’s story has a wonderfully happy ending, but Goran’s work is far from over. He continues to attend to as many stray animals as he can, aspiring for them to also find forever homes, just like Coco.
“Every street dog that I rescue and help find a home is a triumph for me,” he expressed to The Dodo.
