They say there is much to learn from animals. It is from our furry friends that we can learn lessons we may not otherwise learn.
Well, a special dog named Maggie definitely seems to support this theory. Even though she is only five years old, this dog has been through more than most people would endure in ten lifetimes.
Maggie gained worldwide fame after being found in Lebanon with her eyes gouged out, an ear cut off, and a broken jaw. In total, Maggie was shot 17 times before being dumped on the street. She was even pregnant when she was found.
Fortunately, Maggie’s story was far from over. She was rescued by the Wild At Heart Foundation, a charity that helps animals. Eventually, she was adopted by Kasey, an animal lover, and moved to Brighton, England.
Despite all the traumas she had endured and the unimaginable pain she must have suffered, Maggie became a therapy dog. Today, she even has a large following on Instagram.
“Someone in Lebanon had posted a help message and a woman in London saw the message and helped,” Kasey told The Argus.
“Wild At Heart said they would take her in, even though getting pets out of Lebanon is quite difficult.”
“My mother had seen Maggie’s post and said we should foster her. When I came home, I saw the photo and agreed.”
It took a six-month online campaign to get Maggie out of Lebanon, but now she is doing well. With 80,000 followers on her social media, Maggie tours hospitals, nursing homes, and universities in an effort to help others heal and provide care.
Now that she has passed the necessary exams, Maggie is a qualified therapy dog at Underdog International.
“She and I will speak at schools and work practically with young people,” said Kasey.
“I know what Maggie went through was terrible, but if her story can inspire others to do something good, then we can at least do our part to make this world a little brighter.
Kasey, we can’t thank you enough for giving Maggie a second chance she so rightfully deserves in life.
Meanwhile, Maggie has shown a courage and determination that we can only hope to match. We wish this fighting dog all the best for the future.
