Royal Invitation: King Charles invites Trump for unprecedented second state visit to England

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the White House recently and took the opportunity to offer President Trump a remarkable invitation for a second state visit to England. The Prime Minister delivered a letter from King Charles to Trump, who promptly accepted the invitation during a press conference.

‘I am honored to deliver a letter from His Majesty the King, who sends his best wishes and greetings. He has also entrusted me to hand this letter to you. May I present you with the King’s letter,’ Starmer mentioned in a video of the exchange shared by ITV News (watch the video below).

‘Should I read it now?’ Trump inquired, to which Starmer suggested that he should inform the king about his decision. Trump praised the king as ‘a great gentleman, a great, great gentleman.’

Upon reading the letter, Trump acknowledged the king’s signature, remarking, ‘That’s quite a signature, isn’t it, beautiful. A beautiful man, a great man.’

Starmer stated, ‘This is an invitation for a second state visit. This is truly exceptional and unprecedented. It signifies the strong bond between our nations. This letter is very special, and I believe the last state visit was hugely successful. His Majesty the King intends to make this upcoming visit even more memorable, marking a truly historic event.’

This visit will make Trump the first American president to receive a second state visit. While some former presidents have visited the United Kingdom multiple times, not all visits were formal state occasions.

Trump noted that the invitation specified Windsor as the location, which he described as ‘truly something special.’ ‘The answer is yes, and we eagerly anticipate attending and paying tribute to the king and your country,’ Trump confirmed.

Trump’s initial state visit occurred in June 2019 at Buckingham Palace, hosted by Queen Elizabeth.
