Experiencing the loss of a dog can be incredibly heartbreaking.
After sharing a deep bond, the grief that follows can be akin to losing a family member.
Animals, like humans, can also experience sadness when their beloved owner passes away.
Cesur, a loyal dog, lost his owner, 79-year-old Mehmet Ilhan, in January 2017.
The little dog was deeply affected by Mehmet’s passing, especially after caring for him as he battled a long-term illness that eventually led to his paralysis and demise in a Turkish hospital.
“Due to my father’s condition, Cesur and he shared a special connection. When my father was hospitalized in his final years, Cesur even refused to eat,” shared Mehmet’s son, Ali, with The Dodo.

Upon Mehmet’s return home for his final rites, Cesur remained faithfully by his side, unmoving.
Cesur even led the procession to the cemetery and sat beside the coffin with a bowed head during the funeral.

“No one could approach him until my father was laid to rest,” Ali explained.
Cesur observed as his owner was laid to rest in the grave.

Following Mehmet’s passing, Cesur found a new home with Ali, but his heart always yearns for his late owner.

Some weeks later, Ali discovered that Cesur would sneak away from home while he was at work.
One day, Ali decided to trail Cesur to see where he was heading.
It turns out Cesur visits the cemetery daily to pay respects at his owner’s grave, leaving discernible paw tracks that Ali could follow.

“The cemetery workers say his first task every morning is to visit my father’s grave,” Ali remarked.

While Cesur may always carry the sorrow of loss, he is fortunate to have Ali looking after him with great care.
“Cesur is undeniably a noble creature. He will now reside with me,” stated Ali.
