Seeing children help animals is heartwarming. Their compassion for pets in need from a young age is truly inspiring.
It’s especially touching when children help homeless animals, who always benefit from extra human love and kindness. Some kids have found special ways to assist these animals in finding permanent homes.
One boy spends his Saturdays bathing stray dogs to enhance their adoptability.
Thiago, an 11-year-old boy from Brazil, is the brain behind a remarkable project that aids local shelter dogs in getting adopted.
The project, named “Sou de rua mas to limpinho,” which means “I’m homeless, but I’m clean,” involves Thiago visiting stray dogs every Saturday, giving them a bath, and then sharing a photo of the freshly cleaned dog on social media to improve their chances of adoption.
“At the end of last year, I decided that I had to do something for the animals in some way,” Thiago shared with The Dodo.
“While talking to my father, I shared my idea to bathe street dogs so they remain clean and smell nice, changing how people on the street perceive them.”
Thiago’s father, Eduardo, plays a significant role in the project as the official photographer for the stray dogs.
“He devotes Saturdays to bathing the rescued dogs available for adoption, and I take the photos because a high-quality photo boosts the adoption chances for the dogs,” Eduardo told Bored Panda.
They have already bathed 47 stray animals as part of this initiative.
Initially, the project involved bathing stray dogs found on the streets. However, Thiago mentioned to The Dodo that this was too challenging: the dogs were often victims of abuse and too scared.
Undeterred, the boy and his father modified their approach and began bathing new shelter dogs at Noah’s Ark animal shelter.
Many of the dogs Thiago bathed have found new homes through adoption.
Alongside cleaning and finding homes for these dogs, Thiago also aims to inspire others to adopt rescue dogs and provide them with a lifetime of love and care.
“[I want] people not to be afraid to adopt,” Thiago expressed to The Dodo. “It’s the best in the world. But let them adopt the dog knowing that it’s not a thing or toy. He’s a being that will live a long time and just wants to give us love.”
It’s truly inspiring to witness an 11-year-old boy dedicating his weekends to helping stray dogs like this. Way to go, Thiago!
