What would you do if you watched camera footage of a kindergarten teacher mistreating your child?
I know how I would react, and I believe most of you would react similarly. Our children are our most cherished treasures, and we would go to great lengths to shield them.
That is precisely what happened when a kindergarten teacher was confronted by the father of a toddler she allegedly mistreated by suffocating and shaking.
Sources report that Mr. Li dropped off his daughter at a kindergarten in the Chinese province of Hunan on November 20.
Li observed his daughter through a camera screen at the school’s entrance since she was in a poor mood that morning. This way, he could intervene if necessary.
However, the footage he watched, which has been viewed 5 million times, depicted the kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Hu, pointing a wooden stick at the child and instructing her to put on an apron. When the girl refused, Mrs. Hu struck her with the stick.
He then witnessed another teacher comforting the girl by taking her into her lap. However, Mrs. Hu reappeared and once again demanded the child to wear the apron. When the girl refused again, Hu shook her forcefully and coerced her to put on the apron.
At that moment, father Li burst into the classroom and physically assaulted the teacher, expressing his anger towards the person who harmed his child in front of all the children.
Aftermath
Local authorities, who arrested both Li and Hu, stated that neither party opted for an amicable resolution to avoid a legal penalty.
Mr. Li made this decision because Mrs. Hu “showed no compassion.”
“She refused to apologize,” he remarked.
“She was unconcerned about losing her job. Her and her family’s attitude was heartless, and I cannot tolerate that. I accept the consequences of my actions, but this woman who abused a child must also face consequences.”
The school terminated Mrs. Hu’s employment, and authorities sentenced her to 12 days in jail and a $71 fine. She may also face a lifetime ban from teaching.
Mr. Li received a one-week jail term and a $28 fine.
I recognize that violence is never the solution, but I can comprehend why the man reacted the way he did.
The idea of someone mistreating my children, especially by a caregiver or teacher, is intolerable.
