When Angie Laymon and her family returned from church one day, they encountered a distressing sight.
Their dog, Bruno, was outside, bleeding profusely, with a note from the local police station beside him.
The family recognized the severity of Bruno’s condition and rushed him to the vet without hesitation.
At the vet’s office, they were informed that Bruno had a fifty-fifty chance of survival and urgently needed surgery.
The costly surgery seemed daunting to the family, but they managed to raise the necessary funds to save Bruno’s life, although his legs couldn’t be saved.
Angie Laymon, Bruno’s owner, vented her frustration on her Facebook page by sharing her side of the heartbreaking story:
“While we were away, a disturbance near our neighbor’s house prompted a call to the Rogers County police.
An officer arrived at our residence in our absence. Ignoring our German shepherd’s warning, he advanced towards the house.
Feeling threatened upon reaching the house, he shot our dog without cause and left a note, abandoning our injured pet outside.
This was senseless, avoidable, and unnecessary.
Our dog was well within our property’s boundaries, simply doing his duty.
It will now cost us a significant amount for surgery to save his life and remove the bullet.
The officer had numerous alternatives available – returning to his vehicle, using pepper spray, or seeking medical aid for the injured animal.
Tomorrow, I start what will likely be a challenging battle with the Rogers County police to hold them accountable for my Bruno’s medical expenses, a loyal protector defending his territory.”
