Shocking: Mom Forgets to Unplug Charger, Baby Suffers Mouth Injuries

Everyone who has children knows that it’s impossible to keep an eye on them all the time.

No matter how much you protect them from dangers, dangers will always be lurking where you least expect them.

For mother Courtney Davis, the combination of a stressful household and a fearless toddler was a combination that ended in complete disaster.

Courtney usually made sure all cords were unplugged and out of reach of her young daughter. But one day, she forgot to unplug her mobile phone charger from the socket.

Things took a turn for the worst when Gabby, 19 months old, did exactly what children do, put the end of the charger in her mouth.

The shocked mother wrote on Facebook:
‘One day I had plugged my charger in the wall but due to a bunch of things going on that day, I didn’t have time to move it. It took her a few seconds to get burned. She had never tried to put it in her mouth and never messed with it. One day that I forgot to take it out, she put it in her mouth and got a serious burn.’

According to social media updates, Gabby had to see a plastic surgeon. Many people on Facebook were asking what kind of charger it was.

“I’ve received quite a few messages wondering what kind of charger it was. It was a store-bought charger that fits a SAMSUNG Note 5,” Courtney wrote.

She also shared several photos of her daughter and the terrible burn she got in her mouth. It wasn’t until the post reached a group of moms on Facebook that she began to understand how often chargers are strewn about in other households.

In the light of the tragic event, Courtney hopes that Gabby’s accident can be used to spread awareness about the dangers of leaving plugged cords within reach of curious children.

More common than people think
Dr. Marc Jeschke, medical director of the Ross Tilley Burn Center at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, says that Gabby’s terrible accident is unfortunately not so rare. On the contrary.

“Children can chew on cables, bite through them, and it can cause significant damage,” he told Global News. “I have been working with burns since the 90s and this is very common.”

Do you have cords within children’s reach at home?
I had never really considered how dangerous loose cables in the house could be. Up until now, they often sat on the wall without me thinking too much about it.

From now on, I will definitely not leave cords where children can play with them.
