Soldier Heartbroken as Dog Doesn’t Recognize Her After 8 Months – Until He Jumps into Her Arms

If you have a dog at home, you know how difficult it is to leave them alone for even a day. Our dogs miss us every second we are not home; they are so dependent on their owners.

So imagine having to leave your dog alone for months on end. It’s a reality for many women and men serving in the military. Often, they are away from home for months, and it’s very tough for their four-legged friends.

That was the case for a young soldier. When she finally returned home after months, she finally saw her dog again, and it was an incredibly emotional reunion. The video of it is now circulating around the world.

In 2017, the young soldier Janna Berger left for basic training in the military, followed by several months of advanced training. She was away from home for eight months.

This is never easy, but for Berger, the hardest part was leaving her dog Murphy behind.

“I thought about Murphy every day,” Berger told The Dodo. “Being away from him was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”

She left her dog with her parents, who told her that Murphy missed her every day.

When Berger finally returned home, she was naturally overjoyed to see her dog again. She went to her home in her military uniform, and her parents filmed the reunion with her dog.

But Berger made a sad realization: the dog seemed to not recognize her at all.

“When he didn’t recognize me at first, it broke my heart,” she told Daily Mail.

The soldier’s father suspects it has to do with her military uniform and cap.

After a few moments of hesitation, the dog finally realizes that it’s his old friend… and the two embrace each other.

Murphy jumps into her arms and licks her face, and the two share an intimate embrace.

“I had no idea Murphy would react like this when he saw me again,” said the soldier. “The happiest moment of my life was when he finally realized who I was.”

It was a beautiful moment. A reminder that the love of our dogs lasts forever, and that they will always love us, no matter how far apart we may be.

But Berger and Murphy no longer have to experience this. Her military training is over, and she is moving to a home not far from the military base… and she gets to bring her dog along!

“He has been the sunshine in my life for over three years, and now I hope I can spend more time with him,” she said.

We are so happy for these two! It’s a story that proves how smart dogs are and how deep the love we share with them is.
