Surprising Study: Two Beers More Effective for Headaches Than Paracetamol
Opening a beer to relieve a headache might be smarter than you think.
Research shows that two beers are more effective at relieving pain than the popular painkiller paracetamol.
Research from the University of Greenwich, England, shows that after drinking two liters of beer, the pain is reduced by 25 percent.
According to the study, it is effective to drink two beers – the alcohol percentage in your blood increases by 0.08 percent – if you want to quickly get rid of the pain.

Headache after a long night? Then think twice before taking a painkiller. Two beers reduce the pain by a quarter, the researchers found after reviewing 18 studies. “Alcohol can be compared to narcotic drugs like codeine and its effect is stronger than paracetamol,” researcher Trevor Thompson told The Sun.

The experts emphasize that caution is still advised when consuming alcohol. They hope that their studies will help in the development of new drugs to treat pain. It is unclear whether alcohol affects the brain regions that receive pain, or if it affects a person’s sensitivity.
Historically, two beers have been the solution if someone has a hangover. In ancient Rome, it was a popular method to eat fried chicken to cure a hangover, while the ancient Greeks were sure about the effects of two owl eggs. So two beers are not such a bad solution after all.
