Teen’s Heartless Act Leads to Puppy’s Tragic Fate: 3 Broken Legs, 11 Fractures, and Forced Euthanasia

Animal suffering is a difficult topic to hear about, and even harder to watch. But it is important that we spread these stories of abuse and neglect to raise awareness. A necessary evil, therefore.

No healthy living being likes the idea of animals being in pain, especially when it comes to your own dog or cat. Nevertheless, animals are abused every day, and only by standing up for them can we hopefully change this.

Therefore, cases of animal abuse should not be forgotten, no matter how distasteful or how old the incidents are. Consider the case of 18-year-old Logan Smoor, for example. The young man was sentenced to 15 months in prison and a lifelong ban on owning animals for what he did to his 6-month-old puppy.

According to sources, Smoor was convicted of two cases of animal cruelty in 2016 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The 18-year-old was supposed to take care of the little Kia, his father’s puppy, while his father was away. Upon his return, his father found the dog completely neglected and mistreated.

It was only at the animal association that it was discovered that Smoor had committed particularly devilish acts with the puppy. The young dog had 11 fractures, two in her lower jaw, several injuries to her head and ribs, and three bone fractures in her legs. She was severely malnourished, blind in one eye, and in great pain.

The veterinarian stated that she was suffering greatly. Ultimately, she had to be euthanized to end her suffering.

Judge Jane Farish sentenced Smoor to 15 months in prison for severe animal cruelty. The teenager had also killed his other pet, a rat, attacked a woman, and damaged a public bus.

But it was especially his brutal and cruel acts towards Kia that were unforgettable. Claire Ripper, animal welfare inspector, described the acts as “one of the most distressing cases” she had ever seen.

“It is terrible to think that Kia had to endure such unbearable pain that even simple actions like eating, drinking water, and urinating became almost impossible, causing even more pain and discomfort,” she says.

Cases like these make me sick to my stomach. That poor puppy did nothing wrong and was abused to the point where death was a better option than living in pain.

I sincerely hope that Smoor uses his time in prison to reflect on his actions. If not, then the world simply has no place for people like him.
