The Boy Who Outsmarted a Stranger with Candy: A Life-Saving Idea

When children are around 12 years old, they often feel quite mature and independent. They can ride and walk to and from friends during the day independently and usually think carefully about it. With today’s technology, you can also easily keep in touch by phone from anywhere.

But no matter how safe you feel when children take the usual route they always take, there are unfortunately also reasons to worry. Therefore, the best thing is to prepare children for emergencies.

“You don’t think something like this will ever happen. But it does. It happens,” Tenisha Jensen told Live13 after her son fell victim to an attempted abduction.

Lured with candy

Jerry and Tenisha Jensen’s twelve-year-old son, Duncan, was on his way home from a friend’s house on Tuesday afternoon when a stranger approached him.

“He crosses the street and sees that there is a car parked at the intersection. The man by the car calls out ‘Boy, want some candy?’ My son answered ‘No, thank you’,” says the boy’s father, Jerry, according to Little Things.

However, a no couldn’t stop the man who rushed towards the twelve-year-old boy. When he was close enough, the man grabbed the boy’s shirt. Then he pulled the boy towards his car.

Boy punched man in face

“My son had a keychain in his hand that he was playing with on his way home. So he put that between his knuckles,” the father told Live13.

“He then told me, ‘Dad, when the man checked behind, I just did it’.”

The twelve-year-old quickly thought and used all his strength to punch the man in the face. Only then did the older man lose his grip on the boy’s shirt, allowing Duncan to run away.

“He’s a tough guy,” says his father.
“He’s a tough guy, he’s been through a lot.”

Recalled dad’s advice

Duncan ran faster than he had ever run. He ran into an area where the man couldn’t see him and couldn’t drive into with his car. He stayed there for about 30 minutes. When he was sure the man was no longer nearby, he left the area to run home to his parents.

“We said that if you find yourself in a situation where you suspect you are being abducted, we want you to hit, bite, tear everything to get free.”
