The Health Benefits of Eating Avocado: Doctors Explain!

Avocado has been one of my favorite things to have in the house for a long time. When I was growing up, avocados were rare and only available in certain stores, but today it is a very popular and above all very healthy ingredient!

1. Good for the brain

Studies at the University of Illinois showed a relationship between the consumption of lutein, the natural substance that makes avocados green, and improved mental function.

Lutein also has anti-inflammatory effects on the brain, which can positively impact our cognitive functions. Cognitive skills determine how well we remember things, solve problems, and process information.

2. Packed with nutrients

Another study showed that participants who add a few tablespoons of avocado to their salad absorb more nutrients and vitamins that prevent cancer and heart disease, strengthening the immune system.

Researchers believe that avocado also makes it easier for the body to absorb antioxidants from other healthy foods.

3. Reduces the risk of heart disease

Avocados have been shown to have many positive effects against heart and lung diseases, thanks to a low content of saturated fats and a high number of healthy fats.

Eating too many saturated fats increases cholesterol, while eating healthier unsaturated fats reduces it. Avocado also contains antioxidants such as carotenoids and phenols that can prevent inflammation and oxidative stress, while also improving blood circulation.

4. Reduces sugar cravings

A Norwegian study had various participants eat avocado during each meal. Those who ate avocado felt fuller longer than those who did not eat avocado.

Try replacing avocado with your normal salad dressing!

5. Protects your skin

The nutrients in avocado do a lot of good for your body, even on the outside. Zeaxanthin is a substance found in avocado that works excellently against oxidative UV damage and keeps the skin soft and healthy.

6. Sharper vision

Zeaxanthin found in avocado fights age-related eye problems that deteriorate eyesight.

So eat avocado if you want to keep your eyes in excellent condition for a long time!

7. Contains more potassium than bananas

Potassium is a nutrient that many of us may not get enough of.

Potassium is needed for the normal function of the nervous system, blood pressure, and muscles. Avocados contain a lot of potassium, 14% of your daily intake, compared to 10% in bananas.

8. A bundle of fiber

Fiber is a natural nutrient found in high amounts in avocados. It is necessary to keep your stomach and body functioning as well as possible.

100 grams of avocado contains 7 grams of fiber, which is 27% of our daily recommended amount. Not bad at all!

9. People who eat avocados are healthier

A study looked at the eating habits and overall health of people who regularly eat avocados. They analyzed data from 17,567 participants in the United States and found that avocado lovers were healthier than those who did not eat avocado.

People who eat avocado generally weigh less, have a lower BMI, and less belly fat.

I already knew that avocados were healthy, but I had no idea they had so many benefits.

The good thing is that avocado is easy to use in many ways. You can add it to a smoothie or use it in your chocolate mousse or sandwich.
