Death is an inevitable part of life, yet many people believe that it’s important to shield young children from such sensitive topics. They fear that discussing death might confuse or hurt young minds.
However, sometimes children are faced with the harsh realities of life earlier than expected.
This was the reality for 5-year-old Khayne Kheian Naelgas Castro from the Philippines, who lost his mother during the birth of his younger brother.
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the boy, not fully comprehending death, believed his mother was simply asleep. This led to a poignant moment where he fell asleep while tenderly holding on to his mother’s coffin.
According to the foreign newspaper Tribun Pekanbaru, Khayne’s mother passed away due to complications during the birth of his sibling, Cyril Khayzer Castro. The family had to mourn the loss of a young mother and care for two small children.
Unable to grasp the finality of death, Khayne spent much of his time quietly beside his mother’s coffin, gazing at her, hoping for her to awaken. Occasionally, he would rest his head on the coffin, his innocent heart clinging to the hope that his mother was only taking a temporary rest.
His grandmother, who witnessed these tender moments, shared the heartbreaking scene on Facebook, expressing her deep sorrow.
“This child asked me, ‘Why can’t Mommy sleep with me anymore?'” the grandmother wrote in her post.

Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Khayne and his family are receiving the support they need to navigate through this challenging period in their lives. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
