Understanding why one dog is surrendered for adoption while another finds a loving home is truly perplexing.
Take Bear, for example. This incredibly cute dog found a home at 7 months old, received extensive care at the shelter, and was on his way to recovery.
The Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) noticed Bear, a very skinny dog, roaming the streets of Flint, Michigan. After a stint with a foster family, he had to return to the shelter due to his owners’ relocation.
Back at the shelter, Bear was expected to be quickly adopted. However, three years have passed, and he remains unclaimed…

“Bear is affectionate towards people of all ages and genders. He is playful, enjoys cuddles, likes belly rubs, and follows basic commands.”
The only drawback is that Bear does not get along with other animals.
DAWG/The DodoHe was on the brink of being adopted by a family living an hour and a half away. This family had a suitable home, children, a spacious yard, and no other pets.
“Unfortunately, the children changed their mind and preferred a different dog,” Kelly revealed. “Bear was deeply disheartened and wouldn’t even step out of the car. His spirits plummeted afterward,” Kelly disclosed.
Subsequently, he was transferred to the Bissell Pet Foundation, an organization dedicated to rehoming unwanted pets. Every animal was adopted except Bear.
Thus, Bear returned to the shelter, where I captured this photo,” Kelly shared. “The image went viral as it depicted his sorrowful reluctance to return to his enclosure.
While many offered to adopt him, most were insincere in their intentions,” Kelly highlighted.
Bear, like most dogs in prolonged shelter stay, is despondent. Long hours spent gazing at the same wall have taken a toll, causing him to sleep extensively.
Nevertheless, the shelter team persists in their efforts to find Bear a fitting home where he’ll receive the love and care he deserves.
