The Quarantine Silver Lining: Witnessing the Majestic Snow Leopard for the First Time in Years

The quarantine measures due to the coronavirus have confined millions of people to their homes, slowing the spread of the virus. However, one positive outcome of the quarantine is the beneficial impact on nature and wildlife.

Amidst global lockdowns, nature is thriving with reports of wildlife reclaiming deserted urban areas. Additionally, there is a noticeable improvement in air quality.

Recently, there was an instance of an animal long unseen due to the positive effects of the quarantine—endangered species are making a comeback to their natural habitats.

Long-Absent Sighting

A snow leopard, one of the most elusive animals on Earth, was spotted in Russia after many years. This remarkable event was reported by TN.

Due to the absence of tourists in Russian national parks, biologist Alexey Kuzhlekov managed to capture photographs of a female snow leopard.

“They’re Still Alive”

“As I was walking in the park following another hiker’s footsteps, I spotted a significantly large animal species that had never been captured on camera before. It was crucial to photograph the animal for further identification. These are extremely rare sightings. I cautiously took out my camera and began capturing images,” Alexey Kuzhlekov shared with TN.

“I will attempt to take more photos of the snow leopard so that people can see they still thrive and that we must protect them.”
