Audra Petraškienė was driving along the river near her home in Lithuania when she came across something unusual.
By the roadside, she found a wet dog trembling in fear.
Stopping her car, Audra approached the distressed animal.
Upon closer inspection, she discovered a shocking sight around the dog’s neck that filled her with anger.
It was last Friday that Audra PetraÅ¡kienÄ—’s drive through a small Lithuanian town was interrupted by a distressing scene.
She encountered a shivering dog that seemed to have narrowly escaped drowning in the river. Audra halted to check on the dog, only to realize the extent of the poor animal’s suffering.
An improvised anchor, a heavy metal object, was fastened around the dog’s neck.
“Someone had put a heavy metal object around his neck and dropped him into the river to drown,” shared PetraÅ¡kienÄ—’s daughter, Andra, with The Dodo.
The dog was visibly terrified and trembling from the cold.
Despite the ordeal, the dog managed to escape the grim fate and reach safety on dry land.
“He’s a real survivor,” Andra remarked.
Audra couldn’t fathom how anyone could be so heartless as to attempt to end the life of an innocent dog.
“Who could do this to you?” Audra asked in disbelief when she reached the dog.
Moved to tears at the sight of the dog, Audra’s grief quickly turned into determination. She was committed to aiding the distressed dog no matter what.
Bringing the dog home, she carefully removed the 13-pound improvised anchor from its neck and wrapped the dog in a warm towel.
Thankfully, the veterinarian found no serious injuries.
Audra reported the incident to the authorities in the hope that the responsible individual would face justice.
This was not a first for Audra. Her daughter Andra described her as a passionate animal lover who had always cared for animals.
“I’m incredibly proud of her,” Andra expressed. “She adores animals and is always there to help them.”
The dog’s owner was eventually identified by the police, but the motive behind the despicable act on the dog remained unclear. Social media information suggested that the violence towards the innocent animal might have been a retaliatory action by a neighbor of the owner.
Audra opted to place the dog in a secure shelter until the situation could be resolved.
Hopefully, this dog will soon find a truly loving home and never have to endure such cruelty again. Whatever the reason behind this attempted atrocity, it is absolutely reprehensible!
