Intentionally causing animal suffering is terrible and any animal lover can get very upset about it. Rightly so. But sometimes it can happen that an animal is harmed, albeit with good intentions.
The Dierenambulance Kennemerland dealt with such a case a few days ago.
Suspected drunkenness
When a report came in about a sheep that refused to stand up, the service rushed out with two ambulances. They were able to find out who the owner of the animal was on the spot in no time.
The farmer in question suspected that the sheep was drunk… An initial almost bizarre thought, but very plausible. What often happens? Fishermen give the bread they have left over to the sheep, who eagerly eat it.
Slept off the buzz
However, when a sheep eats too much bread, it ferments in the stomach… resulting in alcohol production.
The animal ambulance further reports that the animal is now doing well again, so it must indeed have been drunkenness. The animal is now hopping around the pasture happily with the other sheep.
How sad! Fortunately, this sheep is doing well again, it could have ended badly.
