Unexpectedly, animals can come into our lives when we least expect it. With numerous abandoned and forgotten animals out there, it’s not uncommon for one to cross paths with someone eventually. It could happen to anyone, right?
One day, Mom Jayne Guiney encountered a stray puppy in a rather peculiar manner. However, the real surprise came a few days later.
‘Resembling a Puppy’
Jayne resides in the Australian village of Wandiligong. She heard distressing sounds one day emanating from her garden.
“I woke up to the sound of cries, went outside, and followed the noise to the back of my garden where I found a small animal perched on a rock,” Jayne shared with The Dodo.
“I tried to catch him as he seemed like he could fall, and he appeared to be seeking comfort. Initially, I thought he was a fox due to his sharp head, but his body resembled that of a small puppy.”
Jayne decided to take care of the little animal over the weekend to help him recuperate. Come Monday, she took him to the local vet.
To Jayne’s surprise, the vet revealed that the “stray dog” she had rescued was, in fact, a dingo. She later named the young animal Wandi.
A Dingo Indeed
At just five weeks old, Wandi had some minor injuries on his back. Experts from the Australian Dingo Society speculated that he may have been attacked by a bird of prey.
Being too young to fend for himself in the wild, young Wandi was paired with a companion to expedite his learning process.
“Wandi had a distinctive personality,” mentioned Kevin Newman from the Dingo Society to The Dodo. “He was gentle with people and would playfully nip at our arms.”
Kevin described dingoes as Australia’s equivalent to lions in Africa. They predominantly howl for communication purposes and are not suited for domestication.
Furthermore, a test confirmed that Wandi is undeniably an Australian dingo, belonging to an endangered species.
‘He Holds a Special Place in Our Hearts’
Eventually, Wandi will contribute to a breeding program.
“He exudes vitality and delights in his accommodations,” Kevin revealed to The Dodo. “He grows each day and relishes meeting new faces or creatures.”
“Wandi is an intelligent little dingo, full of mischief,” Kevin added. “We have grown very fond of him!”
Online Sensation
Wandi has risen to fame and now boasts his very own Instagram account with a fan base of over 36,000 followers.
