In a tragic incident, a 5-month-old baby girl lost her life when her mother stumbled and fell while trying to elude an aggressive swooping magpie.
This heartbreaking event took place in a park in Queensland, Australia, where mother Simone was carrying baby Mia in a baby carrier.
As she bent down to avoid the swooping magpie’s attack, she tripped and tragically, baby Mia was fatally injured.
Emergency services were called by father Jacob, and Mia was swiftly taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, she passed away due to “an absolutely tragic and sudden accident.”

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Mia’s father Jacob expressed how his daughter had brought joy to everyone with her smile, innocence, and laughter.
“Our entire world has been shattered, and the pain we are enduring is beyond words,” he mentioned. “We are immensely grateful for the precious time we had with her.”
The magpie responsible for the incident was relocated to the bush, as they are a protected species that cannot be harmed, as reported by Daily News.
Known for their aggressive behavior during breeding season, magpies, which can reach over a meter in size, fiercely defend their nests by swooping and attacking intruders.

A fundraiser was initiated to assist the grieving family, raising over $100,000 to date. The organizers expressed the unbearable grief Mia’s parents are enduring.
“This tragic incident has left everyone in utter shock,” read a statement on the fundraiser’s page. “In just a moment, hearts shattered, and the world of Jacob and Simone was turned upside down. Their pain is indescribable.”
“Sweet Mia, only five months old, has earned her angel wings, leaving behind a shattered world for Jacob and Simone,” concluded the organizers.

Brisbane Mayor Adrian Schrinner expressed that the loss of the baby has deeply affected the community, according to News.com.au.
“This is a tragic incident that no one ever wanted to happen, a first of its kind that we are determined to prevent from ever occurring again,” Mayor Schrinner stated.
Reflecting on the prevalence of magpie attacks in Brisbane, he added, “While magpie swooping is a common phenomenon in Australia, very few people in Brisbane have not encountered it at some point in their lives. However, a tragedy like this has never befallen our city before, and we are committed to ensuring it never repeats.”
Let’s extend our deepest condolences to baby Mia’s family. Rest in peace, little angel.
