Many young girls dream for years about their wedding day, the day they will walk down the aisle in a beautiful white dress, surrounded by loved ones, and unite with their soulmate. Weddings hold a special place in people’s hearts as one of the most cherished moments in life, typically filled with joy and love where little could go wrong, or so they thought.
Unfortunately, for Jessica Guedes, a 30-year-old woman who was six months pregnant, her wedding day took a drastic turn. Initially healthy and glowing with happiness, Jessica suddenly began feeling unwell while inside the church, marking the beginning of a series of tragic events.
Everything seemed on track for Jessica’s special day as she headed to the church in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with her family. However, during the car ride, she started experiencing dizziness and neck pain, which her family attributed to wedding-day jitters.
Little did they know, Jessica was suffering from pre-eclampsia, a rare condition affecting only 1% of pregnant women.

Her fiancé, Flavio Gonçalvez, a 31-year-old firefighter, anxiously waited at the altar as he received news that Jessica had collapsed in the car.
Flavio recalled, “I was worried waiting at the altar, and it felt like an eternity before she arrived. Her cousin rushed into the church, informing me that she had fainted.”
He continued, “Upon opening the car door, I found her lying down but conscious. I reassured her, but she complained of severe neck pain. In that moment, my firefighting instincts kicked in, having served in the fire department for 7 years.”
“I quickly administered first aid and sought help from my firefighter colleagues.”
Rushed to the Hospital
Jessica was promptly taken to the hospital, where she was transferred to a specialized unit for further evaluation.
Medical reports revealed that Jessica had suffered a stroke induced by pre-eclampsia, leading to the necessity of a uterine removal due to internal bleeding.
With Jessica declared brain dead, doctors had to perform an emergency caesarean section to save the life of her 29-week-old baby girl.

While the infant remained in intensive care, requiring two months to recuperate, Flavio paid tribute to Jessica’s resilience and positive spirit, expressing his commitment to raising their daughter with love and respect.
Our deepest condolences go out to Flavio and all those affected by this tragedy. Such heartbreaking stories serve as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing every moment.
Rest in peace, Jessica.
