Paul Mason, from Ipswich, England, spent years in the hospital battling severe obesity.
He gained international attention and was labeled as “the world’s fattest man.”
However, a transformative surgery changed his life, leading to significant weight loss.
Despite successfully shedding two-thirds of his body weight, the pandemic posed challenges, causing a setback.
Paul Mason’s life took a turbulent turn as he started regaining weight.
Today, Paul Mason grapples with the consequences of his weight regain.
His escalating weight triggered a deteriorating health condition.
At a staggering 445 kilograms, Paul Mason garnered widespread media attention as “the world’s fattest man.”
After monitoring him closely for years, doctors realized the urgent need for a transformative solution.

Anticipating a dire outcome, medical professionals devised a plan in case of Paul’s hospital demise.
Owing to his immense size, special measures would be necessary if he were to pass away.
“If the worst were to happen, the hospital wouldn’t have the means to manage someone of my size, so they came up with a contingency. In the event of my death, they planned to transfer me to a slaughterhouse, where large animals are processed, for cremation,” shared Mason in a documentary, as reported by The Sun.
“The proposition was horrific. I couldn’t believe this was being considered.”
Nevertheless, both Paul and the medical team were resolute in their determination.

Weight Loss Journey Post-Surgery
To save Paul’s life, surgery was the only viable option. His chance at an extended life hinged on undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2010.
The procedure enabled Paul to shed weight drastically, with his scale showing 121 kilograms instead of his former 445 kilograms.
Embracing a healthier lifestyle post-weight loss, Paul ventured out more and even delved into the realm of dating.
Following years of hospitalization, a turning point came when Paul connected with Rebecca Mountain on Facebook.
The initial contact aimed at assisting him, but it soon blossomed into a deep bond between them.
“In the summer of 2013, I stumbled upon Paul on Facebook and reached out to offer help. It wasn’t romantic at first; I simply thought of starting a fundraiser for him,” she recounted.
“I had never done anything like that before. Paul responded, mentioning a doctor in New York willing to perform a skin removal surgery at no cost. He just needed support to reach New York and sustain himself post-surgery,” shared Rebecca with Cosmopolitan.
“After a couple of weeks exchanging messages, Paul proposed we chat on Skype. Instantly, we felt a deep emotional connection. We were at ease, discussing our ambitions, interests, and soon, it turned romantic,” she added.
Betrothal and Beyond
As their relationship evolved, Rebecca and Paul decided to meet in person after exchanging messages.
Over time, Rebecca became certain of Paul’s importance in her life, knowing he was the one she wanted to spend her life with.
Hence, she took the chance to propose to him during their appearance on “The View,” solidifying their joy.
However, amidst the pandemic, circumstances altered.
Paul Mason’s Current Life
After years together, 60-year-old Paul Mason reveals to The Mirror that he and Rebecca have ended their engagement.
The breakup took a toll on Paul, leading him back to consuming food for solace and subsequently regaining a substantial amount of weight.
He discloses that his current weight stands at 248 kilograms, as highlighted in the latest TV documentary, “The World’s Fattest Man: 10 Years On.”
Paul reflects, “Fries have always been my ‘comfort food.’ I turn to them to ease the excruciating pain from my arthritis. My doctor refuses painkillers, emphasizing that I must learn to manage without them,” he shares.
Despite his disappointment in relapsing, Paul remains firm in his resolve to regain optimal health through all possible means.
“Depression fueled this setback. I need to prioritize addressing this aspect and focus on the future. Through therapy, I’ve come to realize this. If I were to offer advice on coping with this, I would emphasize the mental aspect,” Paul asserts.
Embracing Therapy for Post-Weight Loss Support
Currently undergoing therapy, Paul emphasizes the benefits of psychological support in managing his weight.
“In my view, investing in therapy instead of solely relying on medications could yield substantial savings for healthcare. Therapy offers enduring benefits,” he remarks.

“Temporary fixes like pills are insufficient. Simply masking a significant problem isn’t a lasting solution,” Paul underscores.
“Recalling my skin removal surgeries, undertaken twice in two years, I felt little change. Despite improved mobility, my emotional state remained unchanged. This is where therapy proves invaluable,” he emphasizes.
All the best to you, Paul! Your journey is inspiring, and we stand with you in your progress!
